Hi, we are Abbie and Richard, we moved from Kent to Hoy in Orkney April 2021.
We have both always loved animals and dreamed of one day having a small livestock farm.
Since moving we have gradually increased the number of animals including Alpacas and would like to share the joy and happiness they bring us with others.
Our land and house are an ongoing project so although lots of improvements have been made there is still a lot more to be done but we finally have separate paddocks for the different animals, field shelters and a big barn. We have always tried to do as much of the work ourselves which means things always take longer. We Hope to improve your experience as we continue improving our farm.
We look forward to welcoming you here to spend time with the animals.
Affrigate is a small farm located on top of the hill at Brims just a mile from Longhope . It has amazing 360 views looking across the Pentland Firth towards Scotland where we have occasionally seen Orca passing.
The land runs down to the coast where we have 2 beaches where seals like to spend time: There is also the remains of The Chapel of Brims.
We currently have 6 Alpacas, 4 Huacayas and 2 Suris.
We also have a number of different breeds of sheep.
We have rare breed Orkney Boreray, more information can be found at www.orkneyboreray.com
A small pedigree flock of poll dorsets (teddy bear sheep) We will be introducing the rarer dorset horns this summer.
Border Leicesters and a number or commercial crossbreeds who came as bottle lambs.
We also have goats including 4 Pygmy goats, 2 miniature horses, 2 Normandy cobs and number of ducks, chickens and turkeys. Our latest addition is 2 male Emus.
